Accies 2nd XI Division Champions 2016
Accies 2nd XI gain promotion with a winning percentage of 81.79%
Accies 2nd XI become Division 5 Champions 2016 and add silverware to Accies trophy cabinet.
What an incredible season and performance by the club, who reached the top of the Division halfway through the season and maintained pole position with some resilient team spirit to ultimately be crowned Division 5 champions!
Stand out performances include hard-hitting Kunal Pawar, who accumulated 344 runs with an average of 34.40 and a blistering top score of 100 not out against Heriots. Accies 2nd XI captain Ankit Sehgal scored 335 runs with a top score of 96 not out against the Old Contemptibles. Our newest club member and resident doctor, Matt Bulkeley, scored 209 runs with a superb average of 34.67. Matt’s top score of 84 against Murrayfield was part of a 2nd XI record opening partnership of 125 alongside David Black. Overall an amazing effort in the batting department, as each player from 1 to 11 made valuable contributions which showcased the strength of the team.
Accies 2nd XI bowling unit were superb this season. Talha Khan was the leading wicket-taker with 15, followed closely by paceman Syed Kabir and Amir Irshad, taking 12 and 11 wickets respectively. Honorable mentions include all-rounder Kunal Pawar who, as well as knocking the ball out of the ground with his bat, also claimed 9 wickets and was, amazingly, top of the Divisions bowling averages with 4.22. Vivek Suho stepped up to Accies 1st XI, but not before taking 9 wickets for the 2nd XI at an economy of 2.39.
To be champions you need a steadfast wicket-keeper and David Black, Accies most experienced and fittest member, was a crucial factor in winning the trophy. Taking 5 catches and 1 stumping, David is a safe pair of hands behind the stumps and any extras are a rarity. David also made some important contributions at the batting crease.
Accies 2nd XI completed the season with 10 wins and only 4 losses, topping the table on 229 points and an outstanding win percentage of 81.79%. Accies have grown from strength to strength this season and, with a brilliant group of members and plenty of up-and-coming talented cricketers, we look forward to our promotion and joining Division 4 next year.
Congratulations to everyone for their effort this season. Next up the ESCA dinner to collect the Division trophy and then the Accies end of season dinner for the individual prize ceremony.
