Accies 1st XI are among the contenders for the top of the first division after winning eight matches in a row, and Saturday’s decisive victory over Royal High Corstorphine sets a precedent for the remaining season fixtures.
As we pass the halfway stage, the 1st XI are third in Division 1 and the 2nd XI are second in Division 4.
Accies 1st XI captain, A. Cosh, is the top run scorer in Division 1, scoring 484 runs with an average of 48. While O. Altaf is the fifth highest run scorer in the Division, 303 runs with an average of 43, and a stunning top score of 115 not out against Kirk Brae. T. Banerjee is in top form after scoring a huge century earlier in the season and has scored 205 runs in Division 1 with an average of 41, including a brilliant 82 against Royal High Corstorphine.
Also in Division 1’s top run scorers list, M. Gani has scored 185 runs with an average of 27, including a couple of fantastic match-winning partnerships. A. Amir has taken Accies 1st XI across the winning line against Kirk Brae and Watsonians, scoring 132 runs with an average of 33.
Solid knocks from O. Saigal, 48 against Linlithgow, A. Francis 45 against Edinburgh South, and F. Muhammad, 39 against Clackmannan CCC, all of whom can score big scores.
Currently with the ball, A. Amir has taken 14 wickets, M. Gani 13, O. Saigal 12, A. Ali 11, L. Mann 9, and A. Francis 8 wickets.
M. Gani is among Division 1’s best bowling figures, taking a 5-wicket-haul against Kirk Brae for 31 runs. S. Kabir had a sensational debut for the 1st XI, taking a 5-wicket-haul for 18 runs against Edinburgh South. Kabir has the best bowling average in Division 1 with 3.60.
A. Ali took 4 wickets for 28 runs against Clackmannan CCC. A. Francis bowled superbly against Linlithgow, 3 wickets for 19 runs. L. Mann took 3 wickets for 28 runs against Watsonians. A. Amir has had a couple of 3-wicket-hauls against Clackmannan CCC and Edinburgh South.
Fielding has also been strong, A. Douglas taking a contender for catch of the season against Watsonians, a one-handed dive on the boundary, and had two great run outs in the same match. 10 catches for A. Cosh behind the stumps, and 4 catches for both M. Gani and A. Francis, O. Altaf and T. Banerjee have 3, with plenty of others spread out amongst the team.
Overall, a great team performance.
Accies 2nd XI, last season’s Division 5 champions, are currently second in Division 4.
Leading run scorer S. Kabir has made 317 runs with an average of 45, including a top score of 104 not out. Kabir is fourth in the Division’s top scorers. Opening batsman, R. Kansara is the sixth highest run scorer in Division 4, 295 with an average of 33.
Accies 2nd XI captain, A. Sehgal is among the Division’s top run scorers, scoring 213 runs. T. Banerjee played one match for the 2’s and smashed a magnificent 120. Also in fine form, T. MacLachlan has scored 95 runs with an average of 32.
With the ball, S. Kabir is second in the Division’s top wicket takers with 19. R. Rehman has also bowled extremely well taking 14. A. Kumar is one of the most consistent bowlers in the Division, taking 8 wickets with a bowling average of 9.67 and 2.57 economy.
Wicket-keeper D. Black is the safest pair of hands in Division 4, currently the leading catcher with 7.
