2015 Accies Trophy

On Wednesday 10th June New Field sports ground hosted the inaugural T20 cricket fixture between the Edinburgh Academical Cricket Club (EACC) and the Edinburgh Academical Football Club (EAFC).

EACC batted first, setting 156-4. Notable innings were contributed by Ali Colam 26 not out, Andrew Cosh 31 not out and Tamal Banerjee 29. EAFC's latest recruit Josh Swanepoel opened the attack with a good spell of South African left-arm pace bowling, backed up well by second row Robert Lovett, who caused the batsmen problems from the first ball with a spell of swing bowling.

Director of Rugby Bob Easson received the first ball for EAFC, as the rugby club set out to chase down the impressive score set by cricket club. The mid-order proved its worth as Paul Loudon (45) and James Pearse (33) made headway to the required total, followed by a knock of 13 from 1st XV coach Phil Leck in the late overs. EAFC were all out for 128 and EACC narrowly won by 18 runs. A bottle of champagne went to P Loudon of the EAFC for his knock of 45.

Many thanks to all involved in making the event such a success, particularly to George Sutherland and his team at New Field for preparing the pitch. We hope this will become a regular fixture and social gathering for the two clubs.
